Between This World and The Otherworld reigned the Cailleach Beara, the wise old crone, the woman of Winter. At the end of Summer she came with her Blackthorn stick and banged it three times on the ground to signal the beginning of Winter. Her rule stretches from Samhain (Nov 1) to Imbolc (Feb 1) when the goddess of Spring returns.
This painting has significance for me in many ways, the story links to memories of my Grandfather and so much more ….read why HERE
